TIRE FIRE

Out off the highway, outside of town,
black heaps smother the ground.
Hiding the countryside, stacked to the sky,
such impressive and ominous mounds.
Numbering several million, they swelter in this heat.
Ignored and displaced, stacks of discarded waste,
one day go up in flames.

And the fireman are tired from battling this fire,
as it rages out of control. They battle the flames
all night and day, while the leachates poison the earth.

The heat becomes unbearable inside their hazmat suits.
Their surfactant foams do nothing to asphyxiate the plume.

A bubbling black mass, our thrown away mess,
will leave scabs that will scar us for good.
The blistering tires, and the orange liquid fire,
will poison your neighborhood.

With a plethora of toxicity, chemically still unknown,
created for the first time, within the plume of thick black smoke.

A blaze that can be seen from space
reaches 1200 Fahrenheit degrees.
The leachates seep, and the tap water stinks,
and now your lungs start to wheeze.

From the benzene and toluene, the poly-chlorinated bisphenols and furans, dioxins and ammonia.

They’ve been burning for days, oozing dripping black paste,
leaching scabs that will scar us for good.
The blistering tires in the orange liquid fires
are poisoning your neighborhood.
With the bubbling black mass of our thrown away mess,
